h22/h23

anyone ever tried taking a H23 bottom end and putting a H22 head on it?? would there be any benefits to this??

i'm starting to gather info on a new project and lookin to put an H22 in a 89 civic hb...gonna be a project for my son and i...does hasport or anyone else make mounts for this swap? think there's enough room after the swap to boost?

Its been done many times before. As far as benefits go, I can't think of many. hasport makes mounts. boost is possible, but its an extremely tight fit. And obviously, AC and Power Steering will probably have to go.

but are the cylinder walls thicker on the H23 block as compared to the H22?

The cylinder walls on the h22 aren't weak, it's a closed deck. I would assume that the H23 would be the same way. There used to be a site called h22a.org, that place was friggin' awesome for info but it closed down about a year ago. But the H23 block with h22 head has been done before, unfortunetly I don't have any links bookmarked :frown:

93-96 (a1) were closed deck. 97-01 (a4) were open deck. If i'm not mistaken, all 93-01 JDM h22's were also, closed deck. Yeah, h22a.org was great, sad to see them go. Try contacting AcesHigh, he seems to be knowledgable about the h23/h22 hybrids. The last time i talked to him about it, he said a complete h22 swap was more worthwhile.

Correct, first gen H22's (93-96) had a closed deck, 2nd gen H22's (97+) had an open deck. However, the 97 and the benfit of larger crank journals. It's a trade off in the end I suppose. I have never heard that about the JDM motors (that they are supposedly all closed deck), but I wouldn't be so sure about that. WHy would honda manufacor closed deck blocks for there and open deck for here? They all come from the same place, it would make sense $$ wise to keep the blocks the same.

If you get an open deck one you can always re-sleeve it.
