so im thinking of doing a pirate radio station in my town because out here there are NO good stations whatsoever, so i and a couple other freaks who are into this hacker geek fun stuff just decided to do it ourselves, but i would like to know about the risks, and what kind of equipment i would need to use, we already have the antenna apparently, so i guess we just need everything but that.

I think a pirate station..is...well...perhaps not the best idea, it be neat if you could pull it off and not get caught though

How could you get caught if you dont say where you are on the radio waves?
I dont think its that easy figuring out where radio signals are coming from

yes tell that to those poor saps manning radar towers that have missiles tracking straight on their signal.
Same for those that talked on phones only to have cruise missiles pay them a visit.
Fact is you will get caught, its not that hard to pinpoint your signal, it will only be a bit harder if you are moving. And then you go to federal prison for violating FCC regulations.

You clearly didnt pay any attention in high school physics.
Go and throw a rock into a pond.
See all the ripples moving out from the center where the rock landed?
Now imagine they are radio waves, and where the rock landed is the transmitter.
It dosnt require a lot of technology to track those waves back to find your rock.

Yea its quite easy to pinpoint a broadcast center. You just need to compute the wavelength and then see where the interruption is, find the pirate link and then hunt her down.

Watch that dumbass 80s movie with Christian Slater (what the hell was it called?). Take notes and make the necessary adjustments...

Why not do it legally? Advertise for investors in your town, visit some local businesses and see if they'll sponsor. You may even be able to get the Government to aid you. Just don't listen to Naysayers.

Yeah! Go for it.....you'll need some investors for the cash and some technical experts, but it's doable.
Or go to jail. Easy choice!
