Situation with Mustang

This isn't anything exciting...but I have a feeling that I'll be giving updates on this one. I have a '93 VR4 and I attend University in Canada, so it's obviously the only one there. There's this guy in a 99-04 V6 automatic Mustang that seemingly wants a piece of me. The other day I was driving my brother and mother home, and he kept racing up behind me, going through red lights and everything, and pacing me feet from my tail. I couldn't do anything with them in the car, but as I was about to turn onto the highway, I gave him a rev he won't soon forget. He starts making some kind of hand gesture at me. I felt like beating him to the ground, but we'll save that. Anyway, why would a V6 Stang think he's all that? Stock exhaust and everything. It must be the louvers on the back :) I also have a modded 5.0L, so I know what fast mustangs can do. I'm thinking of waiting for the guy and asking if he wants to run for a hundred bucks or something. It's just annoying that this guy obviously thinks he can beat me. There's my venting. Any thoughts?

Run him for $100, after that, you know you wont be seeing him ever again. Sadly there are just some pricks like that out there, that are either
A) clueless about the lack of capability their car has
or B) just pricks that lack any excuse

Either way, after an expensive embarrasment, he probably wont give you much trouble.

My friends got a manual v6, every once in awhile, he'll try and impress a girl who is riding with him, and I have to 'beat' him back to reality. The simple truth is it's a v6 mustang...it's missing 2 cylinders.

Run him, and get 2 free tanks of gas.

Its sad, they have a good bit more displacement than the 3000 but still manage to be slower than a base. I agree, try and get 100 out of him, maybe he'll rethink where he stands in the pecking order from then on.

that's b/c the 3000s are DOHC, whereas the base mustang engine is either SOHC or OHV.

What were they too lazy to make it a modern engine? What modern cars other than the base stang have only one cam per head?

OHV is overhead valve, meaning its a pushrod engine. And no, most modern engine are not S or D OHC. Almost all V8's are pushrod.

Heck yeah man, race him for 100 bucks. If he's smart he wouldn't do it, but still just race him anywayz. I hate those people who always think their cars are fast, but the truth is their cars are POS (piece of shXX).

OHV is overhead valve, meaning its a pushrod engine. And no, most modern engine are not S or D OHC. Almost all V8's are pushrod.

but those V8's with the DOHC put out massive amounts of power. Chevy made a special limited edition Corvette ZR-1 that had the 350 V8 with DOHC heads. craazzy, it pushed around 400-450hp.

but ya, most cars are OHV b/c its much simpler than SOHC and even more simpler than DOHC engines. OHV has just 1 camshaft, compared to that of 2 for the SOHC and 4 for the DOHC. OHV obviously has fewer but larger in size valves than SOHC and DOHC. Timing is much more critical and sensitive on SOHC and most especially on DOHC than the simple OHV.

here's where engine knowledge/testing/parameters/power output/fuel economy comes into play. typically SOHC and DOHC engines can run higher rpms, but with modern technology AND race technology, many pushrod OHV engines run up in 7k, 8k, 9k rpms. Also there's technology that Cadillac founded but now Dodge uses that shuts off fuel & spark to 4 out of the 8 cylinders to increase fuel economy on the highway when cruising. Cadillac abandoned this in the 80's/90's b/c there was so much hesitation when punching it and "turning back on" the 4 cylinders. Now modern technology and electrical proficiency has smoothed it out so the transition is seamless.

cool stuff, fascinating things, engines are.

yoda speak i practice, good night to you i say.

Yeah, I just found out my brother knows a guy who's good friends with him, so we'll set it up. I'll probably go from a 2nd gear roll (2nd sycro is gone). Apparently he's a nice guy who thinks his car is all that. I'll be nice, a hundred sounds good, although maybe I'll start a little higher in the bidding...either way, I'm not too worried. I'll let you know how it goes.

BBBBBBOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGG GGGGGGGGGGGG

Dude $100 is all good but thats a boring deal, I have a base and I humiliate v6 stangs. anyway go from a dead stop, why cut him any slack, and you have to do more than the money, teach him a lesson. My sisters boyfriend bought a CRX and thought he could hang with me so I said "ok, we'll race from a dig, I'll give you a two car head start" and the race was like 16 blocks long, light to light. the looser had to put a huge sticker on his windshield that read " (winner's name) owns me!" each letter on the sticker had to be 4"x2" and the sticker had to be kept on the car for 3 months. dude he rides around town and everyone knows I own him!
this guy sounds like he needs a lesson like this.

are you kidding me? you have AWD, race him from a stop, and if you want to make it even more embarassing, throw on a manual boost controller, boost gauge, and an intake before doing it, and turn it up to around 14 psi, it show him no mercy.

It's funny that you should mention an MBC, I'm looking for a Proboost one right now, but I can't seem to find their website. 14.5psi is in the making! The only thing with a dig is my 2nd gear sychronizer is gone, and it grinds whenever I go into 2nd hard. I may say screw it and go ahead if it won't hurt anything doing that. Either way, I'm going to find him and make his dull silver car turn red.

just granny shift into second, after first gear you'll have soo many carlenghts on him that it wont matter, and even after your into second, you'll still pull away like a madman.
