I know this not in the "proper" forum, but it's still a chevy, and as far as I'm concerned, you guys are freakin' geniouses, so...
I've got an 02 K1500 that is, occaisionally, rough to start. Turns over, runs for about 2 - 5 seconds, dies. The longer the problem goes on the longer it takes to start. Once it's running / moving it's ok. Had it to the dealer about 8 months ago and they said it was the fuel filter, they replaced it, and everything was fine. Now it's doing the same thing again.
Anyone ever have a fuel filter go out that often??? Any idea what may be the cause if not?

depends, what kinda gas do you use? and what kind of environment does the truck see? if its a work truck, that gets lost of dust and dirt around the vents then it could be the fuel pump. however 8 months is pretty abnormal for a lifespan. how many miles have you put on it in 8 months?

I run about 1000 miles a month. STREET, only offroad is during hunting season. Use 87 octane, was strongly advised not to use anything higher.

yeah it shouldnt have crapped out at 8000 miles, have ya pissed anyone off lately? think someone may have put somethin in your tank thats clogging up filters?
and who strongly advised against anything above 87 octain?????? dont those trucks run a pretty high compression? i would run plus in it if i were you.

Dealer! Said something about the comuter will get f'd up if use 89-93 b/c it tries to adjust the mixture. Like I said, I'm a CPA, I have no idea what the hell he was talking about.
Dealer also said that as far as they were concerned this was normal life on a fuel filter... something about the gas companies not cleaning their storage tanks. Made sense to me so I didn't question it, but I'm getting awful damn tired of replacing fuel filters.

BTW: third fuel filter so far. Had the truck for just about 2.5 years, 24750 miles. Something doesn't seem right.

where are you located????? your dealer is a dumbass. ive never heard of higher octain fucking with the computer. hes dumb. and maybe if yall have really cheap gas around where you are, that gas station storage tank BS might be true, but ive never heard of it. the normal fuel filter life span is around 25,000 miles.

1. Yes, when the needle gets to about empty I fill it up. Why?
2. You know, I kind of thought that the dealer's comment was stupid, but considering the price of gas I wasn't going to question it. Still 3 filters in 25,000 miles is a little ridiculous. I had an 87 blazer that never had anything above 87 in it, and don't think I ever changed the filter in it.

cause when you run the tank out/dry the pump is sucking up drugs, deposites, that sort of thing.

when i say anything i mean it. the storage tanks could have anything built up in them. thats why we have filters on our cars/trucks. i ran my tank in my camaro dry several times and my pump seised up. i had to put in a new pump, i try and keep it at a 1/2 to a full tank. also i try to use a bottle of fule system cleaner about every 3 tanks.

Screw what that guy says, your trucks owner's manual tells you what type of gas to use.

Your pump seized up because the fuel cools the pump, and running it dry overheated the pump causing it to seize, highly doubtful it was any debris in the tank.

i know that but, but in his situation that might be whats causing the problems, also his pump may seize up too from running it dry.
