Hello, i know this is not the place to put this, but i could not find a spot to put it so please help me. I was woundering if you could point me in the right direction, i want to know the difference between a turbo charger and a super charger like how they work. If you could give me some web sites that tell me. also of some web sites were i can get some good ones for my ford mustang. THANK YOU. please help me.

supercharger:
connected through a belt to the engine, the belt turns the compressor which compresses the air, which is then forced into the engine. The extra air combines with extra fuel, and more air + more fuel = more power.

turbocharger:
the exhaust gases leaving the engine expand through a turbine, which is connected by a shaft to the compressor. The incoming air is compressed, sent to the engine, yadda yadda yadda.

The end result is that both make power in the same fashion, but a supercharger is a parasitic power adder, meaning it requires power from the engine in order to compress the air and make more power. As a result, with everything else being equal between a SC and a TC, a SC will make about 40-100hp less than a TC (depending on how big of a gain we're talking here).

But on the other hand, since turbos run off the exhaust gas, at low rpm or low throttle there isn't enough exhaust to turn the turbine, and therefore you don't get much, if any boost. As the rpm increases, eventually you hit a spot where the turbo starts spinning and making boost, that extra boost runs through the engine and makes even more exhaust, which turns the turbo faster, etc, and basically you get a huge surge of power. The time it takes before you hit this point is called turbo lag, if you've ever ridden in a high hp turbo car I'm sure you've felt it. This doesn't exist with a supercharger since it's always cranking out boost, regardless of rpm or throttle position (to a point).

Turbos also tend to be easier on the engine because they don't make so much power at very low rpm, which can be detrimetal to your rods and crank, depending on the car and how overbuilt the engine is.
