lockers for 94 Cherokee

Thinking about getting lockers. For the front axles only. Checked with a local shop they want $1580(installed) for just the front axle. Includes the ARB lockers + compressor. Also, thinking about detroit lockers.
I am not a hard core off-roader. Don't have a lift, tires are one size larger than stock.
Why didn't Jeep put in lockers from the factory?
Should I even bother with lockers, I have never been stuck with this jeep and I am not planning on rock crawling.
Actually thinking about just getting a winch.
Ideas?
