Back gate vibrating, how do I adjust?

Hi everyone,

my daily driving of 6 miles of washboard dirt road is catching up to me. The back gate of my 96 sport is beginning to rattle, looks like the latch might need adjusted. As I see it, there are two studs that stick down through to the underside near the rear bumper. Is that the adjustment? I notice that the gate seems to be rubbing on the frame near the latchhook (when looking in with the door open). Is it possible that the hinges are going bad? Is that something that can be fixed (by me)? Thanks!

On either side of the latch posts? These are where mine adjusts. Just loosen the two bolts (mine are Torx heads) and slide the post around. Do NOT remove the 2 bolts. There is a nut plate below that will drop off.

As far as the hinges, try adjusting latch and check again. You'd need to remove the headliner to get to the hinges.

Just a quick update:

I took the trim piece off the headliner by the back gate and it exposed the hinge bolts to clear view. both sides were very loose, but also very easy to tighten. It raised my back gate off the bottom by about 1/4", which was good, however it clunks worse than before! I have to assume it still needed adjusted at the post, which I just did. Adjusting the post was a royal pain because I have a tow package on there which made access to the studs almost impossible. I ended up snaking a wobble head in there and got it adjusted, haven't had a chance to drive it yet to see if it's better...
