your drums are fine, your ebrake uses a seperate pair of shoes from the ones you use for actual braking. those shoes are either worn down, or improporly adjusted. its a pretty cheap repair.

well, i would suggest that if youve never done parking brakes before take it to the dealership, and ask to be shown how to do it. most mechanics dont mind so long as they dont feel your "looking over their shoulder" trying to see them do something wrong. the reason i say dont try to do it yourself right off the bat, is that there are lots of parts to take off and have to go back on the right way, and then you have to proporly adjust the parking brake shoe which is much easier if someone shows you how to do it.

as far as a loose parking brake cable, i suppose its possible. but that would usually mean the cable was broken or stretched and youll need a new one. i would do the ebrake shoes first and if it dosnt fix it, then replace the cable.
