I know this has probably been talked about before but, anyways I was wondering what u guys thought about just buying a cai tube off ebay or something and then putting a good filter on it. Would that work the same as a aem or something. Oh and do bypass valves really work?

yeah that would be the same as aem...hmmm a good filter might give u 1 whole extra horsepower than a regular air filter...so u might as well stick with the whole kit from ebay cuz it wont make a big difference

well if u dont live in California where the carb restrictions are so high, then i would buy the cheap kits from ebay and slap on a good filter. will work the same. it's just a pipe. AEM is so expensive cuz they are carb exempt and cuz it's aem
i wouldnt waste my money on that bypass valve either. unless ur gonna be driving in a hurricane and there's flood n then theres no need for it. it only works when the whole filter is submerged in water

yeah, I agree with mostly what has been said...unless you live in CA, I always recommend ebay cai...if you are really concerned about filtration, then slap a K&N filter on the end...you'll still come out under $100.

I saw a couple cai kits on ebay for the gsr that came with Mugen filters. It's no K&N but you'd only loose like .5hp and the whole kit was $45 after taxes and shipping.

Yea those by-pass valves are a joke. I think it was just a quick way to make a buck. They try to say it helps with rain. Rain water doesn’t get up in there any way.. In addition, who would want hot air from your engine getting in there from the by-pass valve any way?
Like "boosted k20" said, only helps it the whole cone was in water. if your cone filter was completely submerged, I think you might be having some other car problems too!
i got my CIA off ebay for about the same price, and they all do the same thing.
