ok what can i do to my 289 auto for $2000 to get the most horsepower/torque without turbos/surpers or nos

not to sound like an ass, but 'NOS' is a company that makes nitrous oxide products. it's called nitrous, or spray, or juice, pick one =)

2 grand can actually take you pretty far. is your tranny stock? if it is, a shift kit will really wake it up. you'll chirp the tires like crazy whenever you want. i reccommend trans-go (but don't be stupid like me and scratch your separator plate =\ ). only costs about 100 bucks on summit.

do full exhaust with that... shortie headers will do nicely unless you want to spend a bunch of cash on a custom midpipe and mufflers.

bigger rear gear will make the biggest difference. usually costs 4-500 dollars to set that up depending on where you go.

then i might do a bigger carb and a nice intake manifold.

that'll get you going pretty well, and will cost well under 2 grand if you do it right.
