I am currently looking for and mr2 and I was wondering what are some thigns to look for. I dont really know that much about the mr2  so like best years, common problems etc. Any help would be appreciated. Im looking at a 1986 non supercharged mr2. I have never seen it but it has 16" aftermarket rims and hes asking $4500. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

4500?! hahahahahaha

Edit. All right, well, first check the kelly blue book value of the car, to get a rough range of what it's worth. (Wouldn't pay any more than $2000, if it's PRISTINE)

Be a prick about it. Push down on the front and rear of the car, how does the suspension hold up?
Start up the car, let it idle for a minute, get out and check for leaks.
Drive it around, feel the clutch and each gear.
Tap the car every where, pay attention to every detail. Has body work been done any where? Check all electronics.
Does owner have maintenance records?
How many miles?
Be cautious if it's over 140k, granted the car IS 18 years old.

drazhartd, the original poster lives in Canada.
Due to the exchange rate, I suspect he is asking about $4500 Canadian, not US dollars.

e_r_i_c_c, the car may very well be worth that much if it is in great condition. As draz said, keep in mind the car is over 18 years old. You may also want to check out www.mr2oc.com, we have a lot of Canadian MR2 owners on there and they may be able to better value a car in your dollars.

Good luck
