Anyone here use a dash-cam?

I've been approached by a producer that wants me to mount a dash-cam for a movie on vigilantes, or at least a book. The reason I was chosen is because I've caught a few crooks on camera, and people know me. I'm thinking of mounting the camera on a pole between my seats, and simply letting it run whenever I'm driving, like that guy on tv that catches DUI's. Any of you done this before? Any ideas? I'm thinking that it may be a good way to get myself shot, unless I camouflage the camera and tint the windows. I'm also wondering about the legal stuff, like an agent. It sounds like fun too, cause I love making shitbags' life miserable.

I assume your in the US?
If so there are some tight laws regarding the use of other peoples image with out thier permission.
But the producer will know about that.

You need to mount the camera as close as you can to the front window to reduce glare and reflections, and you need a camera with good image stabilisation, or you need to mount in a gyro stablisted mount (which would cost several thousand $$$).

You will have to use your own ingenunity on how to mount the camera, depending on the interior of your car.
But look around for mounting points to build a frame from, things like seat mounts, dash bolts etc.

I'm in the US, and the camera is an Hitachi digital. It's supposed to have good stabilization, but it's brand new so I haven't tried it. I plan on securing it to the dash with velcro. I also need to find something that will CLEAN the windshield of the car clean enough. So far, I haven't found anything that works.

it can be mounted behind the grill an no one can see it unless they know its there. Images were used on a DVD for an offroading trip, so it must be atleast TV quality, but the images were "webified" or something.

i'd use a manfrotto (aka bogen in the US) 241V (http://www.manfrotto.com/product/templates/itemalone.php3?itemid=333) mount, or the setup i currently use for stills is to strap a tripod to the back of my seat using luggage straps, so it looks over my shoulder.
