alright guys.....i have the chance to get a ex head and transmission for free or next to free. heres my questions....first off....dizzy. i have a 91 civic standard model...DPFI so im gonna be going from DPFI non vtec 4 speed to MPFI vtec 5 speed....the only concerns i have has to do with the distributor.....since its and obd2 head i knwo i need a new dizzy....but can i use mine off the dpfi set-up with the mpfi setup-vtec. whenever i do research on the mpfi swaps they say u need a mpfi distributor....i dont get why.does it have something to do with the computer...i was planning on using an si ecu.
i guess well start with that

Here's the list. Just trust me, I've done this a bunch of times and tried different stuff. Here's what is guaranteed to work.
-yes, an Si ECU will work nicely
-yes, you need a 88-91 civic Si dist
-You can't use the EX tranny unless you get a hydro to cable conversion for it... that trans is off a car with a hydraulic clutch
-obd0 injectors
-injector resistor box off an 88-91 civic or 90-93 integra, or 94-96 accord
-injector wiring and clips from any mpfi honda motor
-you'll also need to add wiring to the distributor for the cyl 1 position sensor, so I'd pick up the dist wiring off the car you get your distributor from.
Any other questions, post up. I've done that swap a dozen times or more!

the distributor from the si has a crank angle sensor in it, because the ecu needs to know where the #1 cylinder is so it has a reference point to know when to sqirt the injectors.

Thanks for the list....i knew about the conversion kit i needed for the trans....i dont know if im gonna go with it yet or not....pretty sure i am tho.

I don't see why someone would go through all the throuble for a mini-me swap for vtec and use a non-vtec Si ECU with an rpm activated switch. It seems like a rather ghetto way of doing it IMO and from what I understand you don't get the full potential of the vtec (something about not getting enough fuel at high rpm). To read both sides of the story (ie. rpm activated switch and vtec controller or obd1 conversion with proper ecu) read this thread at H-T here (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1047015) and here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t191735.html) is a link from our own peoples. Read what Cjz89civic says...
