Insanity~ The Dealer Estimated The Job On My 2000 Slt To Be About 2 Grand! Reading The Removal Of The Instrument Panel Tells Me Why. What Is Needed Is A Chemical That Can Break Down The Sludge From The Gm Coolant So A Good Backflushing Of The Core Can Last For A While!

$2000 for a heater core replacement?

that was their estimate....I told them to pressure flush the coolant and completely backflush the core and see what it does. this was also their suggestion

Tell them to KISS YOUR ASS.

They are completely ripping you off.

I had my whole system triple reverse flushed for US$175 and that included coolant.

They are fucking you over big time bro.

Tell them to break down how they are getting $2000, it would be rather humerous to see where they are charging there materials and time.

Welcome to Westchester county New York. They said that the tear down and reinstallation of the dashboard/instrument panel was about 2 days, at $85 per hr? I too think he overshot the estimate. SO....what is the GM standard for the replacement of the heater core, in time, on a 200slt 4wd jimmy?

No more than 4 hours.

4hrs for tear down or complete from start to finish?

A person that knows what they are doing will take about 4 hours tops.

I understand that, but a dealer will charge what the book says it is supposed to take....and I know the core should be a max of about $200 even with the biggest of markups. But The link you include in this thread about tearing down the instrument panel is a nightmare!

I was talaking about the dealer. It should only take the dealer maybe fours to do this job.

If you have a problem with my help, please, feel free to go to the dealer and drop two grand on the repair.

Don't get defensive. I too am surprised now that you tell me this. I have been trying to ascertain if there is a heater control valve in this setup, and I cannot. There is no valve between the water pump and the firewall, so the next question now is "What the hell is the temperature control on the hetaing system actually controlling? After this super flush they did yesterday, the heat is non stop, and now we can't get any cool air, regardless of what we set the temp on!

The temperature control actually controls a valve that allows air to flow through the heater or core or around it.

That would be your problem now.

Smonaldo raised a question - Is there a temperature control valve within the heater control assembly or is the heat strictly concroled by the blend door ?

I have my lower dash torn down to expose most of the vacuum valves. I can see four. Two on the passenger side and two on the drivers side. I can however hear an additional one operating in behind. Which one controls temperature ?

Blend door.

It diverts the fan air flow through the heater core or around it.
