Elec Problems after Aftermarket Stereo

Help! I had an aftermarket CD player, Subwoofer and Amplifer installed in May at Best Buy and about 3 months later, my alternator and battery died. I had those replaced, and about 2 months later the alternator went out again. After having that replaced again, I am having the same problems, with the Battery light coming on, my lights are dim, and my windows go up slowly. Also, my ABS light came on. I took it back to where the alternator was replaced, and it was fine, they said it was possibly the stereo system, which I disconnected after the 2nd alternator. Does anyone think they screwed up the installation, or is there something else wrong? I am having the stereo equipment removed to see if that fixes the problem.

some how during the installation, the ground or power wire could be falty or the power wire is grounding out. also it may be too much power drawn from your battery. a good suggestion is a power capasitator. other than that i cant help, but that might be the problem

the cap is a great idea, i wouldnt have thought of that....

but i had the same prob on another car, if u get a higher amperage alternator u should be alright too... but the cap is prolly cheaper, so id try that first

the capacitor is a wonderful idea. i installed one in my friends car and i think the bass hits harder to with it. it also stopped the lights from dimming and the windows from going up slow.

With the added equipment you will probably have to up-grade the alt. and battery. The cars of today have so much in the way of electronics that the factory set up can barely handle the the original equipment. When you add heavy duty electrical equipment the Alt. just can't keep it up. I would also upgrade the battery because many of the systems run directly off of the battery which then gets recharged by the alt.

There was a previous thread regarding ABS and low battery. The post said that there may have been an alt issus that was affecting the ABS because of low alt. output the ABS was inoperative. If you can find an alt. shop they should be able to evaluate your system and set up and recomend the proper alt/batery combination.
Good luck
