Could It Be the Distributor?

I have recently got a 1983 Honda Civic (Hatch Back) from my father. I had to change the distributor cap, wires, plugs, etc. to get it to pass inspection, but after that, it worked great. About 2 weeks ago, we had a snow/rain storm that lasted about 7 days. On the second day of this storm, my car started having problems with the idle. It was so bad that one day on my way to work, it just died and wouldn't start. I thought at that time it might be water in the distributor, so I sprayed some WD-40 into the cap and rotor and it started. Problem solved, so I thought.

Now the storms have passed there is no rain or snow (water) except for a little frost/dew in the morning. When I start the car in the morning, the car starts fine, but as I drive to work (about a 40 minute drive) it starts to act up, kind of like it is mis-firing or skipping. It will continue to get worse and worse until either (1) it dies, or (2) I pull over and spray WD-40 in the distributor and after doing that, it works fine.

I guess my questions would be:

1- If its water in the distributor, how is it getting in there and what water or moisture is getting in there if its not rainingt or snowing?

2- If its water in the distributor how can I fix it?

3- If its not water in the distributor, what could it be?

If guys have helped in the past, hopefully you can save me again.

Wade
