replacing a starter

Sometimes when I start my car, I turn the key and I hear a click, I then pull the key out and try again and the car starts. Sometimes it takes several attempts, is that a bad starter?? The battery and alternator work fine.

If so, how hard is it to replace a starter yourself? I read that there's a way not to replace the entire thing, there's some parts inside, contact plates, which can be replaced, does anyone know anything about this?

If you have to replace the entire thing, is there a good place online to get a starter at a much fairer price? My dealer is asking 225 for it plus labor.

Thanks to all who post answers to these "difficult" questions.

There are alot of posts on this subject. Use the search function or just look a little further. It is only the contacts on the starter. Good luck.
