Hard to say, but I'll put money on knock sesnor. If you already have that plugged in let me know, and I'll think of the next most likely thing. Looks like KS to me though.

:1: i just put a motor in a 90 laser and i remember seeing that, exact same colors and all, ran right to the knock sensor. also if you do not use the manifold support that runs to the block you must take the sensor off that and mount it to the firewall, its some sort of ground and it fucked with some electrical shit when we started the car, so we just had to ground it out and it was fine.

thanks guys, when pulling the cylinder head i never remembered seeing this wire not being used. and i am using the support bracket...the car starts and runs good without whatever it is connected, but i'll go take a look and see if its the knock sensor
thanks for the help!!

also, if this WERE the knock sensor, would it throw a check engine light? mine comes on a few seconds after start up

Sweet.

To answer the last question, I dont think it throws a CEL, but it will lock timing at some default value, like 3 degrees. I think that is the number, but its been about 4 years since I last thought or heard about it.

well after plugging it back in the check engine light never came on, so i guess it was the cause of that. maybe not directly, but indirectly, if you know what i mean...
