transmission 4R44E

1996 ford areostar with the 4R44E trans. 1st to 2nd shift does not go in until you get to about 25 mph and then let off on the gas then it will shift or if you if you start off slow in 1st, it will shift to 2nd. code po756 came up saying it was the 2nd solenoid performance. check ohms on solenoid and is with in specs,also switched out solenoid with good from the A (1st)solenoid still have problem. was told that I need a new valve body. Wanted to get second opinon before I fork down the cost of a new vavle body ,ouch. thanks

This one is stupid, but it happened to me...Did you check your vacuum connection to the tranny. It shifts off vacuum, and if it is off or leaking, it won't shift right.
Like I said, it is stupid, but it happened to me.

Hi, RE your aerostar shift problem, FIRST check to see if you have a LOT of metal in the trans pan, around the magnet, Metal chips?, If not, You have a valve body issue, Check your local ford dealer for TSB info. I hate to do this but I will assume you have checked the govenor to see if it was sticky or just plain stuck? How many miles on this trans? Over 60K?, Could be band servo pistons are hard and giving you a problem, SO many variables with this trans, Final solution, Have a PRO, Take a look at it. GOOD LUCK...Clay..
