2002 gt with service engine soon on

I reciently purchached a 2002 grand am gt... I love it with two exception. The turn signals sometimes dont work, is that a recal from a previous year? Also, I think I need to change the thermostat from the intake needs to be replaced. Anyone know how thats done??
