Pls help 88 dodge caravan over heating no heat

ok i have an 88 dodge caravan the heater went out so no heat drove it anyways noticed steam coming out of vents and a bit of water thought all this was cause of heater core it was my only means of transportation so i had to drive it i didnt think it was a big deal .. so now it started to bubble and now it over heats drove it around the block started to bubble so i let it cool down and added warm water started it and boiled over again what could be the problem or problems.. any ideas... things to check ???? thanx bell

The heater will stop blowing heat when the water level drops below a certain point. If you run it like that for a lenght of time, the head gasket on the engine will be damaged. It sounds like you have been running the vehicle without water in the system for a while now. If the car persistantly boils over now, the head gasket probably has failed.

i have made sure i have kept water in it. when i drove it made sure i filled the over flow bin as well.. i did notice the other day though when it blew all the water out that the fan in frount of it did not turn on .. thank you for the reply and with my luck your prob. right. guess shes on her way to the junk yard.. thanx bell
