'92 4x4 automatic tranny dead?

An friend of mine has a 1992 4x4 4runner with automatic and a v6, the vehicle will not move in drive but still moves in reverse. I this tranny shot and in need of a rebuild? or is there any chance this is an easy fix? If a rebuild is needed, what is a ballpark figure on getting it done right?

I only want $100.00 for it ... it has 2 torques that come with it ...
but i'm on the other side of the contenent (west coast ) and I dont think it would be worth it to ship ??

Is it a 340h?And what condition/usable shape is it in....why 2 torques...I may be interested in it if I can't find out why mine in my 92 v6 4x4 stalls to 2500 rpm's on take off even after over filling and is solid after 3,000 rpms in all gears (rebuilt 16 months ago and a bit over 100,000 miles on suv)

I have a low stall torque , and a hi stall torque ..
tranny has been stripped on the out side .. meaning no senders , or transfer
was in good opperation when in ... just gotta let ya know ... its been out now for 2 years

Did it all of a sudden have this problem or gradually get worse and come to this point????Have you asked service dept. at a local Toyota dealership if this might be caused by a shift solinoid????
Might try catching it when cold and starting it up and checking transmission fluid level...Need to do this repeatedly and watch carefully for dry spots on dipstick for correct level as they can be tricky to read on these models.There is also a product available in most major parts houses called Lucas transmission treatment that lubes and frees sticky parts as well as softens hardened seals in tranny and creates higher line pressure due to a thicker mixture (transmission honey,just like the old school thick motor honey lol)Anyways short of advise of using product is...if it's slips try it and if that doesn't cure it..it won't cause futher damage and has surprised me and friends often when we first started using it on our low budget nothing to lose customers that couldn't afford a rebuild.

I've heard there's a product out there too - I bet it's the same thing, comes in a blue can...often referred to as "mechanic in a can." It'll prolong the life of your tranny (if it works) but it's not a cure-all. Also be careful that you don't flood the transmission; if you're adding fluid, make sure you drain an equal amount first; too much fluid in the transmission WILL wreck it.
My transmission on my '92 4Runner died on me two weeks ago. (I did not try this product though, as it was my understanding that my tranny was way past that anyway). I'm on the west coast - Oregon - and in shopping around I found out the following:
The average cost to buy a rebuilt transmission is $1500
The average cost to buy a used - NOT rebuilt - transmission is $750 - $900
Cost to buy a new transmission, around 2k.
Having your transmission rebuilt isn't worth it, if you go that route, just buy one that's already rebuilt... it's a 15 hour job and you're paying for the labor either way, so you might as well get one that's ready to go instead of waiting around for yours. You still have to pay for the labor to have it put in, new, used or rebuilt, which I understand to be about 8 hours (I and a friend of mine are putting mine in this weekend, who knows how long it'll take us).
It's an expensive prospect any way you look at it. I have a friend at a parts store who let me use their name to buy a new OEM tranny for $1000, but that's an unusual circumstance. If you have a friend who can help you with this, let me know and I'll give you the name of some wholesalers around the country. Don't forget shipping though!

You must either not have a 4x4 or just lucky to have better prices there..here it costs about $3,000.00 to get one R&R'd and rebuilt...grrrr/lol
And yes shipping can get expensive given the weight factor
