how fast can a grand am gt go?

Hi! i have a 96 grand am gt 3.1 and i made it reach 140 on the highway and then the steering wheel started shaking is this normal ? was i going to the limit that it can reach?

Yes that was the limit and yes it's normal for your steering wheel to shake when you're going that fast. That's because grand am's aren't stout enough or tuned enough to be going that fast - the frame and steering starts shaking cause it's not made for it. First of all, you shouldn't even be going that fast - you'll get yourself and others killed. Secondly, even if you did get your GA much faster then that, and your on stock tires (which I'm guessing u are) then your tires could blow out because they're not speed rated - and you'd be done instantly. I'm suprised they didnt blow out a 140. If you wanna max out your GA, take it to a track or something, seriously man, it's not worth risking your life and others just to see how fast your car will go - especially when it's not made for it.

how did you get it to go that fast mine turns off at 115mph

Welcome to the forum. Don't ressurect threads that are more than a month old. Yours stops because your vehicle is governed at that speed. The factory tires may fail after that speed, and the govenor is there to keep you safe.
