1st post newb here
1992 Mustang LX 2.3 n/a a4ld
Cannot get above 2500 rpm in any gear
If I shift manually, I hit some sort of "rev limiter" at 2800 rpm
The "limiter" also actuates while in park at 2800
I can't live this way
I don't know where to start checking
Help!!!

Andy-
New air & fuel filt---exhaust is free flowing---no wierd noises or anything
The motor sounds & feels strong
I try to push the pedal thru the firewall, but it still shifts at 2500 1st to 2nd
a friend says his 89 would go to 4500-5000 in 1st gear
in park/neutral or if I shift it manually, it won't rev past 2800
It's like someone is flipping a toggle switch to cut my fuel and/or ignition
off at 2800 & turning it back on at 2700, then off again at 2800 over
& over & over
Hope I explained the problem better

I had a 88 vw fox that had the same problem. it would just hit a brick wall at about 3,000 and it should have revved to about 6,000. After a year of sitting i finally found a guy who told me to check the head gasket. sure enough it was bad. It was allowing water to get into cylinder 3 at higher pressure. fixed the gasket and it ran fine (till I did 85 into a ditch) but do a comp. test or better yet a leak down test.
