not shifting to first. overdrive problems fixed

1994 Laredo, When I bought the jeep from a friend it would sometimes kick in to overdrive but usually I could drive 70 on the freeway for 20 miles before it might engage. Then sometimes it would work fine. If I came to a stop, it would not take off in first gear unless I moved the shifter down to second. Anyway the harmonic balancer pulley failed and after replacing it, the transmision shifts fine now....Never would have guessed.....

Have you tried to change your transmission fluid and filter to get rid of the first problem.
