I have a 98 1500 4x4 quad cab. I was wondering whatwould have to be done to the truck? What mods like gears and such. I am wanting to purchase an inclosed trailor thats around 2800 lbs. and it I stick a car in it your looking at 6000 to 7000 etc pounds. I would like to know what has to be done to tow with ease. I dont want to strain the truck. Thanks all is aprreciated

First of all, what engine transmission and rear end gears do you have? Check your owner's manual and the tow amounts should be in there. I'm thinking that with 7000 lbs you may want to look into a 2500.

it has a 5.2 in it. I dont have a owners manuel. It is all stock. I was thinking the same thing trying to find a 2500 series truck. But that will be a hassle. but you got to do what you got to do.

I feel ya. Then I'd check to see what rear end gears you have. I think that year came with either 3.55 of 3.92. It may be placarded under your hood. The 3.92 ratio is preferable. But, as you said you gotta do.....
