Which primer is it best to spray Tamiya Italian Red over? Grey or white or does it not make much diference?

White would be your best.
Tamiya Italian red is just like any other red paint, it will show the color underneath it.
There is a thread somewhere about which details all the paint colors that will show the color underneath.

White or pink (if you can find it) I read somewhere that Ferrari uses pink primer to make the red more vibrant. Grey will just make it look :gay:

Gray primer, white primer, pink paint and red paint, each with very thin coat. That's how I usually paint a car red.

Alright Matt, wher've you been, England.
I used white on my Veilside Silvia without any problems whatsoever.

If you want to get fancy, you can tint your primer so it's close to the final color coat. But i would think white should work good, grey would sort of change the color of the red.

Pink primer is a good choice.
White is nice too.
gray will give a dark look to it (maybe way too dark)

Thanks people. Looks like white then! I thought white might make it look pink though. Doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Italian red is a dark red. it won't look like pink
Bright Red is lighter and more red/orange (fine for newer Ferrari)

Completly unimportant but only a little correction, Ferrari uses orange primer for their red-painted cars. I´m also going with white primer on my Ducati.

For Humbrol's red #19 I tried orange as a base coat and it gives a very nice red hue. I'm using that for a Fujimi 288 GTO. For the Tamiya italian red I've used their white primer with good results.

Yeah, for the brighter, modern Scuderia Rosso a yellow or orange base is a great idea, really gives maximum brightness to the finish. However if you are looking for a more traditional scarlet, Rosso Corsa and older, then the pink primer would be the way to go. Either way the rule is - whatever looks right to your eye must be right.
