Somehow these items are getting power without that power going through the switch (which it should). Look for a hot (12V) wire coming in to the fuse box. Have you done any wiring work or added any accessories lately?

I havent' done anthing myself, just purchased it. I see that the fuel pump relay was bypassed instead of buying a new one so that kind of tells me what i'm in for. I'm trying to get at the back of the fuse box but i can't seem to get it apart, removed the two screws, it must lock iin some how. However i don't see and wires coming from it but it could be jumped on the backside..... Haynes manual sucks for wiring diagrams, no engine diagrams at all or relay identification. Thanks for your reply, I'll keep you posted.

Home made wiring jobs are the worse. My Volvo had a previous owner who messed up all the wiring trying to do cheap fixes, and it's a real headache trying to get it all back together.

Problem almost solved. Without the ign. switch plugged in, I started to dissconnect harness under the hood and found that everything has been jumped to the same power source for the headlight system. I replaced the ign switch and everything works the way it should but I would have no headlights so I will keep looking for the splice. I also posted in the jeep cherokee forum and some really nice person sent me a link to download, a Chrysler shop manual, yes , 1400 page file , 16meg, it has everything I need! Its for the 88 jeep but most everything was the same as my 89 except a couple of things, like crank sensor. Its covers the 2.5 and 4.0 engines.

Glad you've solved the problem. If you can't find the cause of the headlight problem, you could always do a home wiring job of your own.
Thanks for the link for the manual. I've seen a few posted on the internet, not sure of the legality, but they sure are useful.
