Does the 3000gt have folding mirrors?

i have the gto and it comes with them as standard.

i found some info on how to wire them up so when the central locking locks, the mirrors fold in automatically, if anyone wants it let me know and i will post it on here.

BB.

Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing that...can you post it. My drunken idiot housemate set off my alarm a few months ago, because he thought it would be funny to fold my mirror in...I politely told him that if he ever touched my car again...drunk or sober, I would proceed to make over his Accord with a aluminum bat...now we have an understanding.

Yeah BB, the 3000GT comes standard with folding mirrors. I dont know about the VR-4 or the SL but at least mine dosent have powered fold. they fold but only if you mannually fold them, so will the set up you mentionned still work? or do I have to buy a motor to get them to fold automatically. in anycase I'd still go out and get the motor and run the wirring. post it up dude, I'm definetly interested.

AHAHAHA, I love the part "...now we have an understanding".

They arent really folding mirrors. You can twist them but not fold them. The power folding mirrors was only available on GTO's.

thought so, they fold in electronically via a switch you press near the active aero button but this system allows them to fold in automatically once you lock the car via the central locking

here it is anyway just for the record.

Auto Folding Mirrors

Wiring the electric mirrors to the central locking so that the mirrors folded in when you locked the car

Equipment required

Multi-meter meter (or 12v bulb)
2 small 12v relays - nothing special single pole / single throw will do
A soldering iron (+ solder)
Small knife
Insulation tape
Small gauge multi strand wire - e.g. car speaker wire
Patience
Method

1. Determine where the central locking control unit is in the driver side foot well by un/locking the door a bit.
2. Using a Multi-meter (or a 12v bulb) track down the two wires that trigger the central locking, measure here the plug goes in. These are at +12v until the pulse is send to the central locking when it drops to 0v.
3. On each of these wires scrape a small amount of the wire bare and solder on a length of insulated wire, cover join with insulation tape.
4. Gently slider the mirror switch panel out and turn around. Disconnect the big connector. Remove a small plastic cover from above the connector to expose a test connector. Solder two wires to the 2 left most pins, poke in the hole and retrieve at the foot well end (one is mirror open and one is mirror close). Replace panel.
5. Wire up both relays with the following: 1 side of actuator coil: +12v permanent Other side of coil to length of insulated wire 1 side of relay contacts to +12 perm Other side of contacts to length of insulated wire.
6. Connect the loose coil wire to the output from the remote locking unit (for both relays - one for each output).
7. Operate the central locking to make sure the new relays operate with the central locking.
8. Connect the loose wire from the relay to one of the wires from the mirror panel, repeat for other relay and panel wire.
9. Test by locking / unlocking central locking - you may have open close the wrong way round - just swap the wires.
10. Ensure all bare wires are covered with insulation tape and the relays are fixed out of the way.
It is good practice to disconnect the car battery when doing such work but I was worried about loosing the ECU settings (and it keeps you on your toes!). The problem that means all this has to be done is that the central locking produces a -12V pulse and the mirrors require a +12 pulse.

would it be possible to swap the stock 3000GT mirrors for the GTO's folding mirrors? BB do you know whats the retail on one of those mirrors?

Um, I havn't looked up exchange rates any time recently, but I'm guessing somewhere in the ballpark of twice as much in dollars...so over $1200 for the pair.
