Odometer reading…

Do any of you know how to verify if the odometer was/was not tampered with? Or what somebody would have to do to disconnect? I am looking at a car and want to make sure the odometer is accurate. (seems too good to be true)

You can also check with the DMV to find out what the mileage was when he bought it. If the guy only put 2000 miles on in 2 years, you know something is up.
