I drive a 98 sl and i took an is300 today. It was pretty tight. i rolled up to the stop light next to it and he rolled up a bit and started revving. The light turned green and i took him. It was pretty tight. I was happy even tho i only beat it by like half a car length 0-60 its a lexus is300 and those things are pretty quick. Maybe the driver was just really horrible o well.

Don't those have the NA supra engine? Isn't the NA supra engine comprable to the NA 3000 engine, and if so thats a good kill since I would assume that those things are light.

that is a bigger kill then you can imagine! those cars are 200hp and 250 supercarged, both models are RWD and yes they are straight 6 cylinders, same as the supra. the car makes 20 hp less then the supra n/a but still puts it down really well and the stock 1/4 times on the Alteeza are like .3 seconds faster than the 3000GT so yeah GREAT FREAKING KILL bro.

Doesn't the 98 sl put down 222 hp, why would that be a huge kill they're almost equally matched. BTW I killed a supercharged gran prix gtp in my 94 sl two days ago, didnt think much of it, cuz those things are boats!

didnt the is300 just come out in manual transmission? i heard a time ago that they were all auto, and only just started putting them out in manual.

well I know there are manuals out, not sure when they started coming out though. and I do think its a huge kill cause the IS is faster out of the box. its a straight 6 which delivers better than a V6. its RWD so it has a faster off the line, and the Variaval Valve timming optimises its power. its just a great car, I'm not saying its faster than all 3000GTs and yeah the driver is the biggest factor in a race but still pound for pound they can hang. just look at thier power to wieght ratio. they out power an SL even if it is 10 HP less.

my dad has an IS300 and i drive it from time to time. they are pretty quick. i could never decide whether or not my 95 SL (fully stock) was faster than the IS but now i quess i know. my dads IS is an auto but it has the manual gears on the steering wheel where you can just push a button to shift. pretty cool but not fun. the other day i was in the IS and my friend has a 4.0L jeep cherokee and we decided to run em. im tellin you no lie that the thing was ahead of me by half a car length up until i hit about 65. i couldnt believe it and i dont know how i could have been driving poorly b/c all i have to do is hit a button.
by the way IS300s are FWD unless the newer ones are RWD, my dads is a 2002.

really ? FWD? I thought they where all RWD, I've worked on two and I'm preatty sure they all came in RWD.......I could be wrong though! I also thought all nissan 240sx where RWD and it turns out there are some FWD models.

Okay, well even though Musashi already answered it, I think torque plays more of a factor than HP when you're going from a stop, but I'm not to exact on that one...

well I dont know how acurrate those specs are, I know for sure the IS300 is less weight then the 3000Gt but according to those stats the IS is heavier.......go figure, still my statement is proven that the power to weight ratio is higer on the IS which means it gets to moving faster. see the torque: 3000GT= 205@4500rpm / IS300= 218@3800rpm
no only does the IS have higher torque which is what gets you off the line, but it also produces full power at a lower RPM range. consider the fact that the internals on the IS are lighter then those on the 3000GT....but for arguments sakes lets say they are the same and so both motors rev up at the same rate......well then by the time the IS is prodicing 218 ft pounds of torque the 3000Gt is still reving to get up there, it comes up short as far as power momentum goes. the IS300 is a tight little car man , BOOYAAH!

I can agree with you guys on this...it has slightly more torque and the RWD would make it faster off the line...so it should be ahead from 0 - 60...and there after it has vvt-i (variable valve timing w/ intelligence) so it'll probably adjust it's torque range for higher speeds...I can see how it's a good kill then...as far as the weight...the 98 SL weighs less, but when i compared the 94 SL, the 94 was a few hundred pounds more, so maybe that's where your confusion is on the weight.

Both cars being very equal, RWD owns FWD in just about everything.
