My car sat for a couple of months , when I started it up again it had a very loud high-pitched whistle at low rpm's. (When I rev the car the noise goes away but when I leave it to idle it comes back). I changed the power steering pump and belt tension is fine. Any ideas??? Thanks

My car sat for a coupla months too. I had the same annoying whistle In my 1992 eighty eight. It was my alternator, it was about to go. Easy to replace.

Easy to replace.I found the prob, the PCV is hidden under wiring and the plastic ELBOW joint conecting to ther hose had blow off, causing the wistle!! Thanks for the input!! Strange, but true, by an unworthy wannabe mechanic!! LOL!!

Can you explain the whistle?? My car is doing something in that area. Whenever it is running i can faintly hear the noise of air escaping from somewhere and when i go next to the steering under the hood i can tell it is near there. Whenever i turn the car off the noise depressureises and goes away, sounding like a newly opened 2 liter pop.

sc?! dude are you a freaking idiot, you're on an oldsmobile forum man that's the funniest thing i've ever heard
..anyways, check that alt man especially if you're pushing something, i had 2 12's in the trunk and didn't even think to upgrade the stock alternator.. $500 dollars later, (starter blew, alt fried, battery died), i've got a 140 high output alt with no problems.

underneath the sparkplug wires that are grouped together right behind the power steering pump is the pcv valve that came apart, the whistle was high pitched air escaping thru the small opening. the hose that connected to the valvecover came off!!

Maybe its beacuse they come supercharged...
I'll have to look at that prob bc mine is getting worse..
