Well my potential buyer's dad took the car to a mitsu dealership and had them pick it over. Apparently the ball joints one or both controll arms are worn and those are $75 each from 3SX, the front rotors need replacing too so they say, what are good stock replacements and where would I recomend they get them on line? How much should I take off the $7500 I was expecting to get for the car considering the necisary parts and labor? And how much should the labor be to install all this stuff (not at the dealership of course). One nivce thing they did was wash the car while it was there lol.

sorry dude would love to help but can only quote prices in the uk.

to replace both ball joints you are looking at 3-4 hrs labour and just over an hour on the rotors.
dont know what your mechanic charge over there labour per hour but in total you are looking at approx 5 hours work plus your parts.
hope this helps

well thats stupid! why would they give a crap about the front rotors??? thats regular maintanace. thats like me asking you to lower the price because the brake pads arent new or because its about due for its next oil change. Dude I got Brembo front rotors on e-bay for $200.00 and installed them myself. it took me and a buddy 20 minutes each so yeah lower like 200.00 for the rotors and like 100 for the ball joints.

oh yeah almost forgot, $200.00 was for all 4 rotors so 200.00 lower for two front ones is very generous.
and BOOOYAAAH

First talk with them and see if they'd like you to replace the items and then buy the car at your asking price. If they'd prefer to haggle the numbers and do the repairs themselves, then you might consider going down a few hundred bucks.

If the sale doesn't go through, you'll at least want to get the ball join and controll arms replaced. Also, be sure to take it to another mechanic and see what they think - the guy they took it to could be full of crap.

Woah woah woah...first off ball joints are $45 shipped on Ebay you dont need the whole control arm like the mitsu dealer will tell you, I bought one and they're good quality...took me about 10 minutes to put it in, just hammer old out and hammer new one in and get the c-clip on there....second take your rotors to a machine shop and have them turned, would cost maybe 50 bucks for both....and if you know how to take your caliper off, the rotor comes right off after that...and if you dont know how to take the caliper off its just 2 bolts on the back, and there you are. Take off 100 bucks, or spend it to do the stuff.

Yea I think I'll take like 200 off the price, I'm still making 1300 on the transaction (thats withought insurance and tax factored in). The rotors need replacing, ones warped and I was told by a guy who looked at them that geting them machined down would probably make them too thin.

Well machining is what you do when they are warped...and "probably" doesn't tell you anything, get a micrometer and measure...there are specs for it, if you've never had them machined before then they'll probably still be thick enough after machining. But it's your money...I would at least see if machining is a possibility, by measurements, not guesses.

wow! 10 minutes! in 20 years of being in the motor trade i have never heard if them being done that quick. what is you secret man? i need to do mine soon. very soon! they are knocking like my grans knees lol.

aren't they pressed in as std? ive had to use a hydraulic press on other cars before and had to put over 5 tons of pressure to get them out. how big is that hammer you are using? :uhoh:

Yea I've heard you should get them pressed professionally and not with a hammer!

lol well I never heard anything about using a press...all i used was just a 5 lb. sledge (same size as a normal hammer), hit it a good 20 times as hard as I could and it popped right out, didn't damage anything either. I knew nothing about the normal procedure for those, but I knew it just popped out so I went at it...didn't know I did it wrong, but hey it works!
