Hey all,
I realize there's alot of thread about starting problems, unfortunetaly I havent found any answers in the ones I read. Here's a little description of my problem.
One morning I try to start and nothing happens. Alright, must be the battery i thought. I boost the battery, turn the key, all the lights turn on etc. but still nothing ... except the alarm which goes off. After switching it off, I try again and nothing ... all the light lit up like when you boos tthe battery, but when I turn the key to ignition, I only hear a click click click :(

My guess is that the alarm system is either (1) stoping the juice from the battery to the starter for some obscur and evil reason, (2) the device between my battery and starter is dead or (3) my starter's toasted (eventhough I changed it 3 months ago >.< )

I'm a big mechanic newbie, so those are assumptions based on a crappy book about VW basics I bought at a local store.

Something I noticed too, my door lock system is making a weird noise in the trunk, if it wasnt able to close (or open) one of the doors. You can hear it running for a good 20 sec before it gives up.

Any input would be appreciated =]

edit: it's a manual btw .. I changed a few pieces not long ago (clutch, timing belt, starter)

Try disconnecting the anti-theft system. The module is under the driver's side of the dash, it has a 6-pin & 10-pin connector. Disconnect both, the wire the pins #5 (red) & #6 (red/black or just red)of the 6-pin connector to each other (this retains the starter function).

If you mean a repair manual then the best is a Bentley. It's available as hardcover & CD-ROM, I would reccomend the book version to less experienced mechanics as the CD tends to be less explanatory.
