Does anyone know where I can find a cold air intake for a '97 Blazer LT?

What about K&N?

Although a very good setup, the K&N will yield NO better results when compared to a Ebay cold air intake.

Here is the best Ebay cold air intake for your truck.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7934759650&category=38634

Price is US$150 less than the K&N and just as good.

Got mine from e-bay for my 97 LS. It was a 3 piece kit that went all the way to the throttle body. I got it for around $35. Works great.

If it doesn't have a heat shield it's really not a CAI... If it's open then you're still sucking in engine heat...

Meh, the difference will not be noticeable.

Untrue... We've tested with and without. You can actually feel a marked response improvement with a heatshield over without. Also gas miledge becomes affected. Several of us on this side have found anywhere between a 2-4 mpg difference in gas miledge. I picked up 2 with over without. Cooler air=better fuel/air mixture.

With a 1997 blazer driving along at 60mph he will not have a huge difference in temperature.

Again, untrue...While it won't help much in the way of pickup at that speed, it does maintain a more constant fuel/air mixture and helps with gas miledge... Again, cold air=better air/fuel mix.

I have used my K&N Cold air intake with and without the heatshield and no change or difference was detected in power or fuel economy.

hmmm, are there any on JC Whitney worth buying? I'm just trying to look for the best one for a cheap price.

Ebay, the cheapest you can get.

And people love them.

I found a heat shield for the cold air style intake system for those interested. Its 31.99 but it is still cheaper to add this on a e-bay system than to buy the brand name product. By the looks of it, you can probably make a pretty decent one yourself if you have any skills in fabrication.

oops. forgot to post the link.

sorry about that. if you just go to the www.autozone.com hompage, scroll down on the right hand side, there is a picture of the shield attatched to the filter. just click on it to get the price.

BlazerLT

nah, that is not a true heatshield.

A true heatshield will block a whole area off for only cold air from the front.

All that shield does it protect the filter from radiant heat from the engine and nothing more.

I've wondered how these cold air intakes work on the blazers. I had one on a Mustang and I loved the way the CAI helped with gas mileage, and smoothed up the throttle response, but I did have problems with it from time to time giving me a Check Engine Light. The code was always the same, said the engine was running to lean.

Are there any problems like this with the CAI systems for the blazer? If not I'll probably get one. I was looking at the pictures of them on E-bay and it didn't look as though a heat shield would be all that necessary.

If anyone has pictures of one installed I would like to see what it looks like, one of the e-bay ones that is.

I just ordered myself one of the Ebay ones, with S&H and all that, it came out to $55.90, and Im thinking I can make a Heat shield for it in my welding class. Does anyone know what type of metal would be best to make the shield out of? thanks. As soon as I get the intake in and install it, ill put some pictures up on here.

Don't use metal, use ABS plastic. I used a garbage can and cut it in the exact shape of the k&n one. Another option is to cut cardboard to shape then rubberize it.

The K&N heatshield I have is all metal and works great.

If you can fabricate it out of metal it will be a lot stronger and resistant to heat warping.

They work great!

Throttle response is WAY up.

Economy is slightly better but where you really see the difference is while at higher rpms.

The k&n's I've dealt with were all ABS... ABS is resistant to warpage..Secondly metal retains heat, abs doesn't.

Odd, my K&N FIPK Gen2 Cold Air Intake has a metal heatshield.

would you guys trust a generic filter on your trucks?
thats what i seem to see at these auto stores....
i dont think a 25$ autozone filter would be as good as a k&n...
id be more concerned about a no name filter...than a heat shield.
but im just a noob :P

i think abs plastic just means its kinda flexable...and shatter resistant.
try to get some at a home depot....or hobby shop....
you might even be able to use some lexan....which is a (kinda flexable...and shatter resistant plastic) :)

Just out of curiosity and interest of doing it myself, how exactly or to what do you secure the shield to, if making one yourself?? I'm guessing t it just attatches to the tube at the base of the filter and rests against the wheel well and body next to the radiator. If so would'nt that cause a vibration?? You have to excuse my ignorance, but I want make sure I do it right.

i think the heat heatshields attach to the neck of the filter....where it meets the intake tube.
take a look at some pics of them to get some inspiration.......if not.....go get one on ebay/autozone....for the time...and headache...not to mention gas youl spend goin from place to place...in your blazer you could just buy one...i think i saw one at a/z for like 20$
as far as vibration....hummmm.....i wouldnt think it would be that bad...if it were secured to the intake well...i wouldnt let it rest on anything.....
keep it as far away from anything as possable...i would think

the heat shield would have come with the intake.

Also put another muffler on it and get rid of the stock one.

Ravin Z55 from Midas is nice.
