battery light on

On my 96 K1500 4x4 My battery light came on suddenly. It wont go off and my lights are dim. Went and bought a new die-hard , put it in and same thing. Light's still on. Maybe altenator?? How much of a job is this and could it be anything else? We are planning a road trip next week and don't want to find out it's anything else. Its a 5.7 engine.

You should have had it checked before throwing money at it.

Charge battery fully. Then load-test it. Check alternator for output. In that order.

Now go and have your alternator checked with a good VAT before you just buy one. Replacement is easy.

Some auto parts store will check the alt and batt for free. Call around first. dave
