Howdy,
I am a former import owner that tired of driving turboed money pits from hell. I know a few basic things about chevy smallblocks, as my family is GM all the way. I have just purchased an 89 9c1 caprice (undercover car) with the 350. Bought it for a $150 at a local car auction, it smokes pretty bad, needs rings and valve job. The tranny is in good shape as far I can tell. The motor will be recieving a full rebuild and probably end up in my 2 wheel drive s-10 blazer. What is the stock stroke on this 350? Also the car will be going to a carbureted setup with an Edelbrock Performer air gap intake manifold a decent sized 4 Bbl, and dual 3 inch exhaust. What would be a decent cam to stick in there for high rpm performance without sacrificing too much low end torque. Does it need a cam? Also what make are the stock heads? 2.02s? 1.94s? Im thinking of going to a 1.94 or 2.02 if I dont like the flow of the stock heads. Also possibly a 100 shot of NOS just for fun. Im not looking to make huge gains here but I definetly dont want a stocker. Any other tips would be apreciated, thank you all for taking the time to hopefully answer my questions.
PS Im getting rid of the body minus motor tranny and radiator (cheap make any offer) otherwise it will go to the junkyard my email addy is [email protected]

I'd recommend hitting the Chevy High Performance Magazine web site.

Same stroke as any other 350...
Edelbrock intake and carb selection sounds good to me.
dual 3" exhaust sounds too big. 2.5" would be better for street driving...
No idea on the cam. Call Comp Cams.

My question is, why are you going from a fuel injection setup to a carb setup?

Carbs are a lot easier to tweek to your personal preferences.

I'd suggest going over to www.thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org) and reading up in the TBI section as well as the DIY Prom Tuning section. These guys have tuned TBIs well beyond what most people would expect possible.

Depends on the amount of knowledge and skill you have. TBI is actually a simpler system than a carb, and anything a carb can do, some form of fuel injection can do as well or better.

hey man,
bore= 4.00" stroke= 3.48"
If your looking to build a solid 400hp with plenty of torque to move that blazer, I would go with GM's Vortec heads. They come with 1.94 1.5 valves and are an incredible performance buy for the buck and with a spring upgrade you could easily run a .500" lift cam.
Running the Air gap is a good choice. As far as carb vs. TBI, well I believe its a matter of personal choice and how u will be driving the car. TBI's offer great throttle response and good street manner when throttle positon is changing constantly, but ultimately, for all out straight line acceleration you cant beat a finely tuned carb.
Hope this helped in some way.
Horsepower is how FAST you hit the WALL,
Torque is how HARD.
