My car is a 91 318i 4dr, 5sp, E30 model.
For the past short while, Ive been having some trouble with water. It first was noticed in the rear drivers footwell (about an inch there, none elsewhere). I verified that all the drains (sunroof, rockers and elephant trunk) were operating properly. I dried it all out, traced routes of entry, pulled up carpet, poked around everywhere possible, but never got anywhere.
No more water came in, so I thought that maybe the few acorns, etc that I pulled from the elephant trunk was the solution.
The car has been closed up for the past few weeks when I was travelling. Tonight I went out, and felt around, out of curiosity. Well, there was dampness again (not the inch of water that was there previously, but I could feel that it was wet in the padding).
The only spot that it is wet, and apparrently where the water is coming from is directly under the drivers seat. Nothing in the drivers footwell, nothing in the rear footwell.
I dont know where else to look... Ive shecked the heater core, AC evaporator drains, door seals, window seals, sunroof, rockers, etc., etc., etc.
Any ideas???
Thanks so much for any help you can give.

No reason to think it was this, based upon the fact that I sprayed the rear window seal and saw no water in the trunk or coming from under the rear seat.
Can you suggest a better way to verify that it isnt leaking? Id greatly appreciate it, as it seems that the areas behind the window seal are hard to get to...
Did the water in your friends car end up in the rear wheelwell or under the front seats?
Thanks very much,
JMH

Did you check the vaper barrior inside your door panels? these panels must be water tight otherwise you will have leaks. I replaced mine because one side had holes in it other side i just replace to be sure these are sealed with butyl tape i think they use this stuff for windshields its a black rope thats sticky but can also be removed when you need to service anthing inside the door or you could use silicone i guess to seal it up. take your door panel off and look at your vaper barrior

How did you check the seal rubber portion? I suggest to use some tissue. Put them around or just behind the sealing portion, then you spray and leave them for a moment. Wherever the door seal, rear door seal or any potential path..
