I have three quick questions. first of i would like to know, if i were to put a b18 or b16 in a 1992 civic would i also have to change the tranny.
secondly, i have had a water leak inside of my car and since then the steering sweeks, i think its rusting what can i do about this. also is cutting the shifter the same as a short shift (what is the difference, sorry for the ignorence) and if not how easy is it to install a short shift.

1. i assume you have a SOHC motor in the car since you are wanting to swap in a DOHC. yes, you will have to change out the tranny. d series trannies wont mate up to B series and vice versa.

2. not sure about the water leak and steering. where is the water leak located. i would think that if it wasn't any were close to the steering column, it wouldn't play a part in the squeaking.

3. im am not 100% sure on this. this is just my reasoning. but, the only way to cut the shifter, would be to cut the top. and then have it re-tapped to accept the shift knob, if it were threaded. I wouldn't mess with cutting it. you can pick a short shifter up pretty cheap, under 50 depending on the brand you trust. i grew up on muscle cars so the brand i trust is B&M and theirs are around 100. but i am not really knowledgable on the subject of short shifters...

i hope some of this helped
