hey, i just have a question about the tems on my 88 supra turbo. i bought it and never thought of why the left light of tems was lit on my dashboard, this light is on all the time that the car is running and in normal mode. what does this mean and is it a problem? also sometimes when i accelerate fast all 3 lights lit up.and also when i press sport mode the middle light on tems lights up as well. is it suppose to do this? i know it has something to do with suspension and the ride is fairly rough but i planned on changing the shocks and struts soon anyways thanks in advance for your help!

It's self explanitory, there is a small picture of a shock absorber under the lights. When all three are lit up the shocks are in full-firm, when only one is on there on the softest setting. The system uses a number of sensors to stiffen the shocks, any quick steering, hard braking, hard acceleration, and high speed. There is an old SOGI tech tip for locking the system into full-firm whenever you like. If for some reason you wan't to keep the TEMS with upgraded shocks the only option is Tokico Illumina II's, Blitz makes a similar electronicly controlled shock system but its VERY expensive. What you plan on changing are the shocks and springs, we don't have struts because the MKIII uses dual A-arms. If you think the ride is rough with stock suspension I suggest you do not upgrade because it only gets stiffer.

thanks for the help. i was worried with the lights that something was wrong but thats a relief. i meant that the ride is bouncy and the shocks and springs need replacing..probably with just a basic replacment like the monroe brand or something else that i can find, but anyways thanks a bunch!

Don't cheap out with some monroe crap on a Supra, if your going to do it then do it right. There are tons of options for upgraded shocks, Tokico HP, Tokico Illumina II (TEMS), Bilstein (adjustable perch), GAB, and KONI yellows. For springs we have Eibach, Interax, H&R, B&G, and Suspension Techniques. Not to mention all of the full coilover sets that are out there.

I wouldn't get rid of the TEMS for any reason.

I love the way my Supra handles...in fact, I replaced my engine with a Chevy small black stroker motor and it would obviously hook up better with wheel tubs and a narrowed nine inch in the rear...I just don't want to get rid of the suspension because I like it so much!
