No sound?

I have a 92 Explorer, and I tried hooking up an aftermarket cd player. I can get power to the unit, but no sound. When i was removing the old unit, a blue wire came off the clip. What is that wire used for?

Also the thick grey cable was cut. What is that cable used for?
