Hey all. I drive a 2001 Elantra GT and was looking to replace the OEM airfilter with a higher-performance one. I was hoping to get some advice from users of a K&N or similar air filter in their 01 Elantras. Is it worth the extra dough? Should I look at cold-air intake as an option? I'm not a racer or into heavily modding the car, just want to get as much out of it as possible without spending a bunch of money on it. Links to specific products or item numbers would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

K&N does make a filter that will fit in place of the OEM one. K&N doesn't make any bad products and it'll certainly improve airflow.
The thing you need to be cautious about with CA is your local laws. Out here in Cali, if you're suspected of racing, the cop hears it under your hood and feels frisky he can tell you to pop the hood and who knows what he can drum up next. But the main point with CA is that you need to live in a state that gets very little rain. When you run the CA setup it'll run down to either your wheel well or the front skirt molding. If the filter gets wet your engine is going to get wet...engines and water don't like each other and you could hydrolock the motor...nothing a can of WD40 won't get you out of in a pinch but you should consider the risk/hassle.
