Another engine swap question...4.0 ??

I own a 2000 Ranger xlt 4x4 3.0 FFV. After 64k miles, my oil pump drive failed. After replacing the drive gear and pump itself, i have a engine knock that continues to escape me. Anyway, since the 3.0 liter is slugggish, and i will have to pull it to find the problem, i am looking for anyone who has done a 3.0 liter to 4.0 liter engine swap. I know the real power is in the v8 but i want to avoid major fabrictaing and maintain the use of all of my accessories. I understand that the 4.0 liter will NOT bolt to my existing tranny, and i am prepared for that, but any additional help/info would be appreciated.
