91 crown vic stuck in drive

My crown vic is stuck in drive. I can move it from drive to 2nd but cannot get it into n or p or reverse. I had to just shut it off in drive and put the emergency brake on. Anyone have any ideas?

Iwas told that inside the trannie there is a pinor rod that hooks onto the shifter. I was told that it breaks or comes out. Has anyone else had this problem?
