The holley on my 78 trans am has taken a dump and i'm not sure which kind of carb to get for it? It's the 400cid and i've had one person tell me to get an edlebrock and another to put the a stock one back on it (rochester?). I'm not sure which one would be better or which would give me power (this is a good thing) but I want a good quality carb that will work well for a long time. Any suggestions.......
thanks

I prefer a 750 quadrajet, myself. But Ive had holleys, edlebrocks. People have their own favs.
I do belive you get a better (hump) on the start with a holley. Edlebrocks seem to respond quicker.
But quadrajets seem to come right on in the with the power, conserve fuel, and are very little trouble.
I m sure some people will disagree. Also dont over do jet size, and bogg down your engine.

i think holley is now rebuilding the quads now ,and maybe the edlebrocks also, but that doesnt make a lot of difference

He is one of the best Q-Jet guys in the country, and specializes in Pontiacs.
For a "driver", the Q-jet, when properly done, is without a doubt, the best "stock" carb out there. Good response, plenty of flow, and VERY tunable.
Ignore all the anti-Q-Jet remarks. Those that have bad "luck" with Q-Jets either haven't followed instructions, or haven't used quality parts, or both.

I've been a die hard Edelbrock fan simply because they are bullet proof. Just plug it in and drive. Reliability wise they are the best in my opinion.

I currently am running a Holley remanufactured quadrajet.I cant decide between it,and the Carter AFB i normally run.No sizable performance difference, but the quadrajet leaves the plugs nice and clean and the carter, fouls them up somtimes. And the quadrajet costs 10 bucks to rebuild,i found that out because a single grain of sand in the needle and seat assembly. The carter is like 5 years old,and ever since i jetted it,i havent touched it.I set it with a vaccum Gauge every 6 months, and forget it.The rejet kit was like 60 bucks for the carter, and came with several choices of jets.like 4 pairs if i remember right.
