I want to replace the standard 168 bulb in the parklight, with a 6 led
bulb from an aftermarket supplier. How do I gain access to the rear of
the headlight housing to make the switch?

2001 they changed the grill from the 2000's right? im thinking so other wise its a snap, but therse usually about 4 connectors holding in the head lamps. so just look at each corner where the lamp is under the hood. u should be able to see em. if not get out ur owners manual, im sure theres a guide in there on how to change the bulbs.

The 2001 is totally different from the 2000. The owners manual is of
no help at all. No illustration, and no mention as to how to change it.
The Chilton manual for Frontiers say it is for 1998-2001, but it is
for 1998-2000. (Maybe some Canadian models for 2001 were the
old body style.) There are two 10mm bolts that hold the top of the
headlight assm. in, but I can't see what is holding the bottom.

Thanks for trying, Redsleeves

okay well ill tell u what, im betting 99.9% that the bottom isnt bolted, i cant describe it but basically it just pops in. if ur carful u can just use a screw driver and pop it right out. i know it was that way in my 2000 ford ranger, and its that way on my corner lights on my 2000 frontier. i havnt had my headlights out yet. but i bet ne thing thats all it is. its that way on most all vehicals. so try it just pull really hard. they should just pop out.

Success! You were right. After removing the two top 10mm bolts, the
Headlight assm. was loose except for the bottom. A firm pull straight
out released the assm. from the two snap in brackets on the bottom
side. It is very tight, so on one side I removed a small bracket that
braces the top of the grill to the radiator support. (Easier to manuver
the headlight assm.) On the other side I did not remove the bracket
just to see if I could still manuver the assm. I could. Once the assm.
is out enough to manuver, ther is clear access to replace either the
parklight, side marker light, or the front turn signal.

Thaks again for you help, Redsleeves

np dude, i was pretty sure thats all it was. i normally take a flat head screw driver and carefully pri them out. it works great u jsut gotta be carefull not the scratch or break/dent whatever ur using as the fulcrum.
