O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction!!!

Just got my very first CEL on our 2002 @ 28K miles. It almost brings tears to my eyes (literally):crying:. P0155, bank 2 sensor 1, O2 sensor heater malfunction (thanks to autozone). It came on a couple days ago right after a cold start & has been on ever since. The truck runs like a top. That O2 sensor (driver's side, pre-cat) looks like new, as does it's wiring and connector. Anybody know what an OEM replacement goes for these days? Autozone wants about $60, but I hate to chance is with an a/m unit. As luck would have it, oxygen sensors are only warranted for 2/24 per the manual :banghead: .
Thanks!
Joel

No help here, but posted as a sign of support! Too bad about that sensor trouble. :banghead:
Does the 02 sensor need maitenance, is it part of a maitenance schedule, or just fix when broken?
Hope someone comes along with some help!

I would just get a bosch unit. I've never heard of anyone having problems with them. I replaced mine with a bosch and it worked fine. St Charles wanted something like 200 bucks for an OEM unit. But, mine is a 1st gen rodeo and may cost more then yours since mine has only one O2 sensor while yours has 4.
Thanks!

Sounds like you took it out and reinstalled it right? I would clean up the connectors, disconnect the battery for a while and see what happens.

The fed. emssions warranty doesnt cover much, when it comes down to it. There's like 2-3 pages of stuff that are not covered by it, O2 sensors being one of them :disappoin . Yep, the connections & wiring look perfect. It's kind of a bugger to get at where/how it's located. I disconnected the neg battery terminal over night & it cleared out the CEL for about 20 miles, then it came back. I dont get any lean/rich/slow/no activity codes from bank 2 sensor 1, just the "heater circuit malfuntion", so it *appears* this oxygen sensor is doing it's thing :uhoh: ?!?! I'd really hate to dump $200+ into one new OEM sensor, but I dont want to cut/splice an a/m unit onto a 2002!
Thanks

Thanks 2eye. I'm having a heck of a time finding a bosch replacement. For some reason you can find bosch for the 2002 2.2L, but not the 2002 3.2L. There are other brands available, but I dont wanna chance it. I have a great local 'zu dealership, but I dont want to have another OEM unit installed if it's gonna puke @ 28K miles! :swear: Back to the search I guess....
Thanks

Not sure if this helps or not, but when I replaced the O2 sensors on my '97 (3.2L) I used Bosch P/N 15703 that I purchased from AutoZone for ~$55 ea with tax.

Nope. Even the O2 sensors for a 2001 3.2 are different from the 2002 3.2L. I've found "walker" branded O2 sensors for my 2002, but I'm not sure they work. An "OEM" walker is $106 :disappoin .

I didn't see anything written about the checking the fuse. My Rodeo has a fuse for the O2 sensor's heater circuit in the engine compartment. It may be worth a look to see if yours is OK. It probably is...

Checked the under-hood fuse for the O2 heater circuit. Fuse was ok. There's one 20A fuse for all 4 heated sensors, so I guess if you lost the fuse, you'd get a code for all 4 sensors. Merlin from St.Charles got back to me. The oxygen sensors for (the 2002 3.2L atleast) are part #8-97287-352-0, list price $136.69 each, cost with internet discount is $116.19. Per Merlin, all 4 sensors are exactly the same. New vehicles are getting to the point you wont be able to afford to drive them when they get old! $500 worth of O2 sensors ALONE on this truck. If you ever lost the "Y" pipe with cats & sensors, you'd be out a couple GRAND!

Has anybody tried the 'universal' cut/splice type oxygen sensors on a 1998+ 3.2L? Thru www.oxygensensors.com, you can cross-reference their 'walker' brand O2 sensors to a bosch 15730 universal sensor for the 2002 3.2L (you cant find a direct bosch p/n for the 2002 3.2L for some reason  ). It's like half the price of a plug'n play unit. The "posi-lock" system the bosch universals have looks pretty good, as opposed to the crimp & heat shrink system most others have. I'm having a tough time coming up with an extra $110 this time of year :banghead:. Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks all.

I've used the universal O2 sensors before without problems and wouldn't hesitate to do it again to save more than a few bucks.
Thanks all.
