There are many of us out there who have put more money into a car than its really worth. But how far would you be willing to go? Whats the most amount of money you, or someone you know has put into a car? Thats including upgrades, repairs, appearance, etc..?

Currently I put $700 in my CRX. In about a year, a K20A2 engine swap is planned, estimated cost: $5-6000. Does that answer your question? Some people think it's a waste, but not me.

$700 is not bad but I'd probably be hesitant to do a $6,000 engine swap.

$80.00 for brakes.
$600 for the car.
$1,100 for the wheels and tires.
$1,000 for misc interior and exterior trim.
I honestly don't know what my budget is for the car total. I just work out a budget for each different modification. It might cost me and upwards of $20,000 to finish the car.

About $1300 has been sunk into panel repairs, $600 into general maintenence, $330 on new tyres and $40 on new hubcaps. This is on a $4500 car.
All figures are in New Zealand dollars.

Most of my cars are daily drivers so I just do the normal maintenance, and some preventative maintenace on them. My pickup got a new class 3 hitch last fall to be able to tow a car carrier, and that was the extent of extra money I spent on my vehicles. My Bel Air is a different story, though, as I hope to begin restoration on it this year. It's hard to spend extra money on your vehicles when you have a family.

I currently have $15k invested in a car that I paid $300 for. (that's not a typo)
I also have $7000 invested in this darn 73 station wagon, but its worth it. I consider any car worth it, provided its a personal investment, not a material investment.

Ive only speny the $2500 it costed to buy the car so far, but after i drop about 2-3 thousand in it, it will drop 2 sec off and run 10's in the 1320 (1/4 mile) without even trying.

My Summit cost me $1,500. Car in its current state is worth its weight in gold (2600 lbs. :D) if you ask me, reason being: A/C and heater work perfectly, abundance of passenger/cargo room, 25-30MPG in the city, comfortable, looks pretty nice IMO (everybody loves the Summit! :D), pretty darn fast, very reliable, lots of fun to drive. What's the deal-o?
I've dropped about $400 into it so far.
- $200 - Upgraded sound system. New unit; bigger, and louder speakers.
- $200 - Tints. 15% in the rear windows; 35% (I think) in the front.
I'm not sure if I should go all out on this one. Seems like a good enough car with lots of potential, but the idea of modding a mini-minivan is probing my mind in a bad way. Suggestions?

My thought is to look at what needs done, tally it up, and ask myself, "What's cheaper? Buying a new car or fixing this one?" Of course, there are other considerations, but that's generally what I do. If the total repairs required for the current problems I'm having are less than $1000 then I'll likely keep the car and fix it.

Old thread.
I dont think i soend my money wisely when it comes to cars. New rear after destroying the original was about 1200 with labor and replacing everything brakes, seals, bearings, gears, posi rear, axles and lugstuds. Exhaust was about 200, k&n was 50. I only paid 100 for my amp and subs. I traded a bumper for some crager s/s wheels, and about 500 for tires.
Bad thing is i only spent 1000, on the truck. 89 s10 blazer with 90k.
