4x4 light flashing+stays engauged

my explorer is flashing the 4x4 light and stays enguaged, if i unplug the motor it doisnt stay enguaged . is there a way to get flash codes?

the faulty is most likely the 4x4 motor.

I have the same problem and traced it to what the Haynes Manual calls the "Generic Electronic Module" or GEM. It is located in the dash, behind and to the left of the radio (if the vehicle is a 1995 and later model). Whenever I disconnected the connector from the module the 4WD was totally disengaged but the Generic Module also controls some other functions so I had to reconnect it. I have been looking for a replacement but can't seem to locate one with a name called Generic Electronic Module. It must be sold under another name.
