Headlight burnout

Hi all,
New here today. Have been looking around for a while and picking up some good info.

I'm posting for the first time because I'm looking for some help. '99 LHS, 48K miles, purchased new has decided to burn out left side headlight bulbs. I replaced the stock low beam bulbs with Xenon 80W. 6 months later the left bulb failed. Replaced it with the stock bulb while waitng to get another Xenon. The stock bulb has been in there for about 3 months and it now has blown out too.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

You did remember not to handle the glass part of the bulb with your bare hands, so the body oils would not make a hot spot on the bulb and cause premature burnout ?

Thanks for your reply. I was very cognizant of not touching the bulb glass. Matter of fact, just to make sure, I always wipe them clean EVERYTIME I have to handle them, just in case.

I'm hoping it's not an electrical problem of some sort and was hoping maybe someone resolved the same problem. Thanks again.

I would check to make sure there is no movement in the light housing and the front nose clip is bolted down tight enough. I always check the quick, free easy stuff first. If there are no signs of problems in that area, then it might be an electrical problem, see if there are any codes in the computer also.

Do your headlights dim significantly when in gear and at idle, some signs will be obvious but not a drastic difference?

If you do touch the bulbs, merely wiping them might not be enough as you just smear the oil of your skin around, I believe you should wipe and dry with a clean cloth with some alcohol on it to completely remove the oil from your skin on the bulb. Also for what it's worth, I would never replace with a higher wattage bulb than the stock specifications allow as with a higher wattage also comes higher heat output from the bulb and they may actually damage (warp or melt) the reflector from the increased heat. Buying new headlight housings is not a cheap date.
